Older Skin And Why Anti-Aging Facials Are So Important
By Tyler Rhodes
Feeling old as dirt? That’s okay—you’re never too old for a facial!
Pampering yourself with a facial, that’s not just for young folks. Gone are the days when you glance in the mirror and see young, supple skin. You now feel like you’re some version of a skeleton, with veins and bones now showing due to the loss of fat in your skin. We can try to do everything we can, but eventually our skin will age. This means we have to be even more vigilant when it comes to taking care of it because now we’re dealing with different skin. Get a facial and help keep your skin looking fabulous!
4 Issues with older skin
1. Wrinkles: So you spent a lot of your younger years lying in the sun trying to get that perfect tan. That was back in the day, before we all knew about the dangers caused by too much sun. Now you may have a few wrinkles here or there, it’s just a fact of life. Whether or not you took care of your skin, wrinkles will happen over time. Our skin looses elasticity and starts to sag, and is thinner.
2. Dry skin: Many older people suffer from dry spots on their skin that feel rough and scaly. There can be many reasons for this including dehydration, too much sun, smoking, living in a climate with dry air, and being stressed out. It can also be caused by loosing sweat or glands not producing enough oil, which becomes common with age. Underlying health problems can be an issue as well, such as kidney disease or diabetes.
3. Age spots: Also known as “liver spots,” are flat, brown spots that are bigger than freckles and can be seen on the face. This is often caused by years in the sun.
4. Enlarged pores: When you age, your skin produces less collagen, which is what keeps your skin nice and plump. Without this substance your pores loose elasticity and become dilated, giving you the appearance of large pores. Sun damage can also exacerbate this problem and genetics play a role in the size of your pores as well.
What is a mature facial?
Mature skin needs a different kind of tender love and care to keep it looking it’s best. This kind of facial would be tailor made for each individual, depending on their needs. Since elderly skin is more fragile, certain treatments either need to be modified or completely eliminated from the facial altogether. But, whether you’re looking to smooth out those wrinkles, restore a healthy glow, diminish age spots, or are in desperate need of clearing out some of your clogged pores, most facials consist of the same basic four steps.
Cleanse: First thing is to thoroughly clean the face. In this step all the pollutants that collect on the skin during the day are removed. If you’re wearing any makeup, that goes too.
Exfoliate: As you get older your skin is less efficient at producing new cells and it’s slow to remove toxins. This creates a dull, dry look to your skin. Exfoliating helps to get rid of all those dead skin cells on the surface. It sloughs them off to reveal the fresher, more youthful skin underneath.
Mask: A mask is applied to the face and left on for about 10 minutes or so. It’s then either pulled or washed off, leaving your skin soft and supple with the impurities pulled out. The right mask can help hydrate, remove excess oils and improve the appearance of your pores.
Moisturize: This is one of the most important steps, hydrating the skin. It keeps skin soft, smooth, healthy, and beautiful!
Since older skin needs more specialized care in order to revitalize it and improve its health it is wise to regularly see a professional aesthetician for these anti-aging facials. They will have highly specialized knowledge and skills that will yield the best results. If you are thinking that you are on a budget and can’t afford a facial you need to keep in mind you don’t need to go every week. Once a month or even once per Quarter, if monthly is out of reach will be fine. The results will be worth it. You can even let your family know that a gift certificate for a facial on your birthday or the holidays would be much appreciated. That way you may have to come out of pocket once or twice per year. You won’t regret it. Also, beautiful skin is great for your self-esteem and your overall feeling of well-being. Remember, your skin is the largest organ in your body and it plays a critical role in your health. Take care of it!
No, you’re not cursed. Every day you’ve lived had been a blessing and you now wear it proudly on your face. Sure it may not be the radiant skin you once remembered from long ago but you can still take good care of it to make it be the very best it can be today. Go ahead, treat your skin right… and get a facial!
